These painted relief carvings of local wildlife in the Downfall Creek Bushland Centre area were first made in 2003 by Jamie Maclean when the playground was constructed.
During the intervening years, water has entered the outer layers of the cypress centre-pole, 'hollowed-out' sections of the pole's surface, and some of the carved animals. Cultural Asset Services was engaged to strip back the affected outer layers of the pole, carefully remove and repair the damaged carvings, replace them to their original positions, then colour-match and re-seal the cypress post to match the original finish.

 'Gone to Seed' on display on 'The Platform' at the Visitors Centre, Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens.
Each year a New City Artworks sculpture is displayed on The Platform at Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens, then relocated on permanent display to a suitable location inside the Gardens.
Cultural Asset Services was engaged by Brisbane City Council Design Brisbane to project manage underground services location and geotechnical testing of the proposed site (near the entry to the Japanese Gardens) prior to the final relocation of 'Gone to Seed' to its new home.
'Flower by the Gate' by artist Pamela See is part of Brisbane City Council’s Core Public Art Collection.
In January 2020 the work needed to be removed from its existing site at the corner of Albert and Mary Streets Brisbane, due to Cross River Rail construction. Cultural Asset Services worked with Cross River Rail contractors to remove the work from the site. With bronze restoration by Chalkos Fine Arts Foundry, and stone restoration by Ceramica Mandala , the sculpture is now fully refurbished and in storage - ready for its new location. |
